Trial Chambers
Page updated
Sprawling copper-and-tuff complexes built around combat rooms, traps, and locked vaults. Players come for breeze rods, heavy cores, exclusive decorative rewards, and the materials to craft a mace.
This guide follows vanilla Java 26.3. Historical changes retain their own edition and version. Bedrock generation and loot can differ. Screenshots and verified seeds below retain their own game versions.

Where it generates in Java 26.3
The Java 26.3 biome tag includes Overworld biomes other than Deep Dark. Biome eligibility is checked at the generated starting position, not from the surface biome name alone. [2][5]
Candidate positions and rarity
Java 26.3 selects one potential starting chunk per 34×34-chunk region (544 blocks on each side). Candidate selection happens before successful structure generation; this is not a measured density or an average travel distance. [3][4]
The starting Y is sampled uniformly from -40 through -20 inclusive. Connected pieces can extend above or below that start, so this interval is not the height range of every chamber block. [1][3][4][5]
What the starting position means
The start pool is trial_chambers/chamber/end. Size 20 limits connection depth, and the horizontal distance limit is 116 blocks. A ten-block dimension padding rejects a starting piece that would intrude into the protected top or bottom margin. [1][4][5]
Corridors, combat rooms and rewards
Trial chambers assemble corridors and hallways with larger combat rooms, platforms, cover and side spaces. The template families include assembly, eruption, slanted and pedestal rooms. Follow connections between rooms and check elevated ledges: the same room shell can receive different smaller pieces. [6]
Trial spawners and vaults are separate blocks with different jobs. A spawner runs an encounter and ejects rewards after its tracked mobs are defeated. A vault exchanges the matching key for a player-specific reward; defeating a nearby encounter does not itself open the vault. [7]
| Part | What to look for |
|---|---|
| Breeze spawner | A dedicated breeze encounter configuration. [6] |
| Melee spawners | Zombie, husk or spider configurations. [6] |
| Ranged spawners | Skeleton, stray or bogged encounters. [6] |
| Small-melee spawners | Baby zombie, cave spider, silverfish or slime configurations. [6] |
| Normal vault | The reward/vault template uses a trial key and the normal vault reward table. [6] |
| Ominous vault | The reward/ominous_vault template uses an ominous trial key and its own reward table. [6] |
Repeatable fights and personal vault access
Encounter mob totals and simultaneous-mob limits are configuration values that scale with additional detected players. There is no single mob count for every spawner. After a completed encounter the normal target cooldown is 36,000 game ticks, or 30 minutes at 20 ticks per second; a normal spawner can start an ominous encounter during its normal cooldown when it detects the required omen effect. [7]
A detected player with Bad Omen has it converted into Trial Omen, which can turn a normal trial spawner ominous. A spawner already cooling down from an ominous encounter does not take that same shortcut. This changes the encounter configuration; it does not turn a normal vault into an ominous vault. [7]
Vaults record players who have already received a reward. A spawner finishing its cooldown does not clear that vault record, so a repeatable fight does not mean repeatable vault rewards for the same player. Normal and ominous vaults require their respective keys. [7]
Loot and rewards in Java 26.3
Trial chambers distinguish ordinary containers, trial-spawner reward tables and vault reward tables. Entrance-table chests can contain trial keys; spawners also have a separate key-reward path. The normal vault and ominous vault use different reward tables. Do not apply a container chance to every chamber chest or every defeated mob. [8]
In the inspected Java 26.3 reward table, the first selection chooses the rare subtable with weight 8 or the common subtable with weight 2. It then invokes the common subtable 1–3 more times. A separate pool can invoke the unique subtable once, subject to its random-chance condition. The ominous reward follows the same structure with its ominous counterparts. Nested common/rare selections mean a percentage from one subtable is not automatically an overall chance for its items. [8]
The normal unique pool runs with a 25% gate; the ominous unique pool runs with a 75% gate. Their unique subtables have no empty entry, with total weights 12 and 10 respectively. The table below includes the parent gate and describes one invocation of the configured vault reward table. These are reward chances after an eligible unlock, not chances per chamber, key drop or arbitrary chest. [8][9][10]
Heavy core is listed only in the ominous unique table in this comparison. A mace is not a direct entry: heavy core and breeze rods are different resources, and obtaining one does not imply receiving a finished mace. [8]
| Item | Where the rule applies | What the data establishes |
|---|---|---|
| One normal vault reward-table invocation | 6.3% chance: 25% unique-pool gate × weight 3/12 in its one draw. [8][9] | |
| One normal vault reward-table invocation | 4.2% chance: 25% unique-pool gate × weight 2/12 in its one draw. [8][9] | |
| One normal vault reward-table invocation | 2.1% chance: 25% unique-pool gate × weight 1/12 in its one draw. [8][9] | |
| One ominous vault reward-table invocation | 7.5% chance: 75% unique-pool gate × weight 1/10 in its one draw. [8][9] | |
| One ominous vault reward-table invocation | 22.5% chance: 75% unique-pool gate × weight 3/10 in its one draw. [8][9] | |
| One ominous vault reward-table invocation | 22.5% chance: 75% unique-pool gate × weight 3/10 in its one draw. [8][9] | |
| One ominous vault reward-table invocation | 7.5% chance: 75% unique-pool gate × weight 1/10 in its one draw. [8][9] |
