Ocean Ruins

Broken stone or sandstone buildings, found alone or in clusters. Their chests and suspicious blocks hold treasure maps and pottery sherds, and warm ruins can hold sniffer eggs.

How it generates

Usually sits on the seabed or partly buried in it, though buildings can reach onto nearby shores. Height follows the terrain, and suspicious blocks can be hidden under ordinary sediment.

Placement values are for Java 26.3. Cold and warm ruins share one placement grid, and the biome decides which one you get. Cold ruins appear in normal, cold, and frozen oceans and their deep versions; warm ruins appear in warm, lukewarm, and deep lukewarm oceans. In Java, 30% of ruins are large, and 90% of large ruins bring a cluster of 4–8 smaller buildings. Drowned placed with the ruins don't despawn, and Java can also generate zombie nautilus jockeys. In both editions, each brushed block of suspicious sand in a warm ruin has a 1 in 15 chance of a sniffer egg. Java chests can hold stone spears; Bedrock's aren't confirmed to.

Variants

  • Cold · Stone-brick ruins with suspicious gravel and Blade, Explorer, Mourner, and Plenty pottery sherds.
  • Warm · Sandstone ruins with suspicious sand, sniffer eggs, and Angler, Shelter, and Snort pottery sherds.
  • Small · Compact buildings using the small-ruin chest loot table.
  • Large · Larger buildings using a separate chest loot table and usually accompanied by smaller ruins.
