Trail Ruins
Page updated
Buried settlements made of roads, towers, and smaller buildings. Brushing their suspicious gravel turns up distinctive armor trims, pottery sherds, and the Relic music disc.
This guide follows vanilla Java 26.3. Historical changes retain their own edition and version. Bedrock generation and loot can differ. Screenshots and verified seeds below retain their own game versions.

Where it generates in Java 26.3
Eligible starts are Taiga, Snowy Taiga, Old Growth Pine Taiga, Old Growth Spruce Taiga, Old Growth Birch Forest and Jungle. [2][5]
Candidate positions and rarity
Java 26.3 selects one potential starting chunk per 34×34-chunk region (544 blocks on each side). Candidate selection happens before successful structure generation; this is not a measured density or an average travel distance. [3][4]
The start pool is trail_ruins/tower. The generator adds the configured -15 height offset to the sampled world-surface height, so the starting position follows local terrain rather than a single global Y coordinate. [1][3][4][5]
What the starting position means
The jigsaw depth setting is 7 and the horizontal distance limit is 80 blocks. Connected templates and placement constraints determine the result; depth is not a promised number of buildings. [1][4][5]
A buried settlement rather than one treasure room
Trail ruins begin with a tower and expand into roads and smaller building groups. The structure uses burial terrain adaptation, so a small exposed patch can belong to a much larger site underground. Follow the constructed materials outward instead of assuming the first colored blocks mark the complete footprint. [6]
The building groups include full-height, lower, room and hall pieces. For example, group_full_1 has saved bounds of 5 × 15 × 5, while group_hall_1 is 15 × 15 × 11. These are individual template bounds, not total ruin sizes. [6]
An excavation site without a resident population
The audited trail-ruin templates contain no entity residents or mob-spawner blocks, and the structure has no special spawn override. Empty rooms are part of an archaeological ruin; they do not indicate that villagers should return. [6]
Its reward-bearing archaeology blocks are assigned through processors. Count and inspect the suspicious blocks in the actual excavation; template dimensions do not establish a fixed number of finds. Keep unsupported gravel from collapsing while opening the site. [6]
Loot and rewards in Java 26.3
Trail-ruin archaeology assigns either the common or rare loot table to a brushable block. There is no universal outcome table for every gravel block. The probabilities below apply only after the block is assigned the named table and successfully brushed. [7]
The rare table selects one of twelve equally weighted entries: seven pottery sherds, Wayfinder, Raiser, Shaper and Host trim templates, or music disc Relic. Each trim and the disc has weight 1 of 12. These percentages do not include the generation process that decides which blocks receive rare loot. [7]
The common table has total weight 45 and selects materials and decorative items. Emeralds, wheat, wooden hoes, clay, brick and several dyes and candles weigh 2; entries such as gold nuggets, coal and seeds weigh 1. It contains none of the four rare-table trims or Relic. [7]

Version history and release dates
These milestones retain their edition and exact build labels. Snapshot, beta and preview dates belong to those development builds; full releases and staggered Pocket platform releases are dated separately. Historical introduction claims come from the cited Wiki history. [9]
