Nether Fossil

Bone-block skeletons scattered across soul sand valleys. Their bones provide bone meal, and in newer versions some come with a dried ghast for raising a happy ghast.

Fossils sit on the valley's exposed ground and in its caverns.

Biomes

  • Soul Sand Valley

Java (minecraft:nether_fossils) picks one candidate per 2×2-chunk region, then checks biome and terrain. Each fossil has a 1 in 3 chance of a dried ghast. Bedrock generates fossils as features and changed how often they appear in 1.21.90; its exact rate isn't confirmed. Height limits aren't confirmed either. All fossil shapes share one Java structure ID. Dried ghasts are blocks, not mobs.
