THE END · SMALLER FEATURES
End Gateway
A small bedrock frame around a portal that links distant parts of the End. Gateways shorten the trip to the outer-island cities and give you a way back to the central island.
From the Minecraft Wiki, summarised
How it generates
Gateways from dragon kills appear around the central island at Y=75, about 96 blocks from its center. Their linked outer gateways sit above the terrain. In Java, separate return gateways also generate on their own in End Highlands.
Biomes
- The End
- End Highlands
- End Midlands
- End Barrens
- Small End Islands
It's a feature, not a Java structure. Java defines it as minecraft:end_gateway, with minecraft:end_gateway_delayed and minecraft:end_gateway_return configurations. Each dragon defeat adds one central gateway, up to 20. Using one for the first time creates its outer counterpart. Return gateways that generate on their own have no cap, and their exact chance per chunk isn't known. Bedrock has only The End biome and picks landing spots differently.
Variants
- Central gateway · Created after a dragon defeat; opens a linked outer route.
- Linked outer gateway · Returns to the central gateway that created it.
- Natural return gateway · Returns to the End platform without regenerating it.
