Find a biome in your seed
Search options

At one height only. Cave biomes may require a lower Y; the finder does not locate cave entrances.

Enter a seed and choose a biome to see sampled patches on the map.

How to find a biome by seed

  1. Enter the seed from your world. Choose Java or Bedrock and the generation version that created the chunks.
  2. Choose Overworld, Nether or End, then select a biome available in that version. Open Search options to change biome height or use your own X and Z coordinates.
  3. Select Find biome. Choose a result row to center the map on that sampled patch, or open the full seed map to explore farther.

The seed stays in your browser for calculation. A completed search keeps its seed, version, biome and search options in the page URL so you can bookmark or share it.

What the biome finder measures

The finder uses the seed map's Java and Bedrock generation models. It samples a circle around the search start point, first within 1,000 blocks at 8-block spacing, then within 2,000 blocks at 16-block spacing and finally within 4,000 blocks at 32-block spacing. It stops at the first radius with a matching sampled patch and lists up to six patches.

A result marks the center of the nearest sampled cell in a group of nearby matching biome cells; groups can span small gaps. It is not an exact nearest biome boundary. Small patches between samples can be missed. Distances are horizontal, in blocks of the selected dimension; they do not measure a safe walking route.

Overworld searches start at estimated world spawn unless you enter coordinates. Nether searches project that Overworld point by dividing X and Z by eight. End searches use 0, 0. These starting points are predictions or coordinate references, not a measured player spawn.

Surface biomes and cave biomes

The default biome height is Y 64. In modern generation, biomes can change with height, so a surface slice can miss an underground biome at the same X and Z. Use Search options to choose another height. Finding a cave biome does not establish open air, an entrance, resources or a safe place to dig.

For a search across several cave heights with separate comparison evidence, use the lush cave finder. For biomes and structures together, use the Minecraft seed map.

Biome finder questions

Which Minecraft versions are supported?

The selectors currently include Java 1.7.10–26.3 and Bedrock 1.18.0–26.50. Available biomes follow the selected edition, generation version and dimension. Choose the version that generated the area, which may be older than the version you play today.

Are these locations checked in game?

No. Results from this tool are model predictions. The published seed catalogue separately identifies the locations, edition and generation version covered by our game verification.

Why is a biome missing from my world?

Check the seed, edition, generation version, dimension and Y height. Existing chunks in upgraded worlds retain earlier generation. Custom world settings, add-ons, mods or data packs can change results. This finder uses default world generation and can miss patches between sampled points.

Can this tool find a new seed with a biome I want?

This tool inspects a seed you already have. Use SeedCard Finder to search candidate seeds for your chosen biomes and structures.
