Amethyst Geode

Hollow pockets of amethyst inside shells of smooth basalt and calcite. Players mine them for decorative blocks and keep coming back to the budding amethyst, which regrows shards.

From the Minecraft Wiki, summarised

How it generates

Generates underground between Y=-58 and Y=30. A geode can intersect or obstruct caves and aquifers, and a crack often exposes its interior.

Biomes

  • All Overworld biomes

It's a feature, not a structure: Java calls it minecraft:amethyst_geode, and it has no spacing grid. Each chunk has a 1 in 24 chance of attempting a geode, and 95% of geodes have a crack. Budding amethyst can't be picked up in survival, so a shard farm has to stay where the geode is. Bedrock's attempt rate isn't confirmed.

Variants

  • Cracked · A gap in the shell can expose the amethyst inside. 95% of geodes.
  • Sealed · No crack in the shell. 5% of geodes.

Notable loot

  • Amethyst Shard
  • Block of Amethyst
  • Amethyst Cluster
  • Amethyst Buds with Silk Touch
  • Calcite
  • Smooth Basalt
